Abstract

This project aims to produce a mini-MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) with seven modules, each focusing on one specific skill that is relevant to students’ academic and professional training. These modules will cover both broad skills (e.g. conducting an interview, producing videos) and more discipline-specific skills (e.g. visualizing quantitative data). The mini-MOOC will feature videos, written text and exercises, and a test at the end of each module that students can use to track their progress. The mini-MOOC will be modular, giving course instructors the option to select only those modules that are relevant to their specific disciplines and courses’ intended learning outcomes. The mini-MOOC will be used in at least 5 different courses during the project, targeting at least 110 UG students. The project will lay the foundation for a university-wide MOOC that can be used by all Lingnan faculty members for specific skill-based teaching and learning, incorporating blended learning to free up more in-class time to focus on teaching disciplinary knowledge.
