For many years, the Department of Accountancy has provided excellent courses, training and service to students. However, there are nowadays challenges to the Department in terms of student misunderstanding concerning the accounting major and career prospects in accounting. These issues reflect the need for greater efforts by the Department on communications with current and potential students. More peer communications among students themselves, and more interactions between students and practitioners, especially alumni of the department, should also be enhanced. Especially under the current COVID-19 situation, hybrid teaching is demanded. A web platform was established to enhance those communications by the project “Establishing an Accountancy Department Web Platform to Enhance Teaching and Learning (102475)” in March 2019, which is expected to be completed in November 2020. In the current project, students have 1) increased their interactions with the Department, teachers, alumni and peers; 2) enhanced their job-hunting skills and obtained more updated information of the profession and industry; 3) obtained more Department information concerning seminars, workshops, conferences, etc., and enhanced participation in those events; 4) enhanced their English and Chinese writing skills by voluntarily writing web platform articles, and improved their language abilities through modification of their articles by relevant Department members. From March 2019 to now, we have invited eight outstanding graduates to share their competition, job hunting, internship and work experiences. These personal experiences are very valuable to current students. We have also included sharings from QP graduates, Liu Si Min, (winner of HKPFS), Wang Yu An (who obtained the highest cumulative GPA among all graduates in 2019) and Chueng Tsz-yan, (winner of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship 2019/20. Each article's clicks are around two to three hundred, and almost all subscribers read it. For example, Cheung Tsz-yan's sharing has reached 344 clicks on the WeChat platform, and Liu Si Min's sharing has reached 312 clicks. Our article on Professor Su's ROAR ranking has gained 894 clicks, the most on the WeChat platform. This proposal builds on the current project, and aims to improve the web-platform for the Department to 1) improve a web-learning and co-learning space to enhance students’ academic studies, language skills and up-to-date knowledge of accounting practices; 2) further improve students’ job-hunting skills by delivering useful information on interview skills, changes in the accounting profession and experiences from alumni and CPA practitioners; 3) further connect the Department, its academic staff and alumni with current students; 4) explore more opportunities to collaborate with professional practitioners for knowledge transfer; and 5) establish a sharing community which integrates community service with the students' curricula by inviting the public to subscribe to the web-platforms of the Department, so that more people can benefit from the articles and information published by the web-platforms established by the Department.
