This project leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance history education at Lingnan University, aligning with the university’s Strategic Plan to enhance liberal arts education in the digital era. By integrating AI into the history curriculum, the initiative trains students to critically evaluate historical figures, events, and controversies through innovative, technology-enhanced exercises. A key component is the development of a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) application, which enables students to upload historical documents and query the system for AI-generated responses grounded in those materials. Students engage in controversy analysis exercises, where they research primary sources on historical disputes, interact with the AI to explore multiple perspectives, and collaborate in groups to debate and synthesize findings. In another exercise, students create AI-enhanced historical personas, querying the system to simulate interactions with historical figures and critically analyzing the AI’s responses for accuracy and bias. These activities foster critical thinking, digital literacy, and the ability to navigate conflicting narratives, while ensuring AI responses are informed by historical evidence. By engaging with AI in these structured exercises, students gain essential skills for academic and professional challenges, enriching their understanding of historical and contemporary issues while raising awareness of human and machine biases. d
