This project develops an innovative to teach Chinese-English interpreting courses that responds to the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on language services. The curriculum systematically integrates AI technologies - including Large Language Models (LLMs), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), and Machine Interpreting (MI) - into conventional interpreter training, addressing the growing industry demand for technologically-adept language professionals. The course adopts a stepwise pedagogical approach that cultivates dual competencies: foundational interpreting skills and strategic deployment of AI throughout the interpreting workflow. Students will develop both technological literacy and critical evaluation skills, learning to optimize human-AI collaboration in professional settings. Through structured practice with real-world scenarios, particularly those relevant to the Greater Bay Area, students will gain hands-on experience in technology-enhanced interpreting. This initiative advances interpreter education by preparing graduates for an increasingly technology-mediated profession while establishing an innovative instructional model for institutions navigating the convergence of language education and AI. The project outcomes will contribute to our understanding of effective human-AI partnerships in professional communication services and support the University’s strategic goal of enhancing liberal arts education in the digital age through smart teaching and learning.
